HomeAire: Clearing the Air

How to Save on Your Energy Bill in the Winter

Did you know it’s possible to knock 10% off your energy bill?  It’s quite simple according to the U.S. Department of Energy. The DOE says that you can save 10% on your energy bill by scaling back your thermostat in your house 10 to 15 degrees when you’re not home.  This is welcome news in a time when money is tight.

Another bit of good news is that the U.S. Department of Energy dispels the myth that it takes more energy to heat up your home once you come home than to leave the furnace on all day.  This makes it well worth the (minimal) effort to lower the temperature in your house.  Try this tip for a month this coming winter to see if it works for you.

Beyond reducing the temperature in your house, you may also want to try installing a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) that cleans the air, while saving heat and money.  A Heat Recovery Ventilator allows you to breathe cleaner warm air during the winter.  It works by expelling the contaminated air from inside your home and replacing it with fresh outdoor air while still retaining the heat from inside your home.
